Paul Windows has served over 27 years as an operational firefighter with the Avon Fire Brigade. Gaining promotion in 1980 to Leading Fireman leading to Sub Officer Rank in 1989. During his career he has gained experience in all aspects of fire fighting along with fire Investigation.

 

Fire Risk Assessment


The Fire Precautions (Workplace) (Amendment) Regulations came into force on 1st December 1999. These state that a written Fire Risk Assessment must be carried out and recorded for all premises with five or more employees.

What is Risk Assessment?


It is an audit of your premises that:

  • Identifies potential sources of ignition and combustible materials in the work place
  • Defines a strategy to manage and reduce these risks as far as possible
  • Takes into account the people that use the premises - their numbers, ages, physical abilities and special needs
  • Defines and locates appropriate equipment to detect, warn of and combat fire in the premises
  • Ensures satisfactory exit routes are identified and maintained ready for use
