The New Resuscitation Council (UK) 2010 Guidelines?

Written by

The new resuscitation protocols were introduced in Oct 2010 and I wondered if any successful resuscitation has been documented? I have always been a great advocate of chest compressions based upon 33 years experience within the NHS Ambulance Service dealing with cardiac arrests.

The amount of times that we've arrived on scene at a cardiac arrest only to be told by the bystander "I've been doing mouth to mouth" Have they! Due to clinical reasons or the unwillingness to do this I suspect not!

The times when we have witnessed this taking place very little if anything was being achieved by the bystander. I also identified reluctance to perform any chest compression to any great depth.

I like the new protocol for children as there are too many people still reluctant to perform any treatments on children mainly due to fear of doing harm or the legal repercussions. Far too many children are still dying because first aid techniques are not taught to parents, teachers etc and by the time we arrive on scene very ineffective treatment has been given to these children.

The new Resuscitation Council (UK) 2010 Guidelines  with they make a difference?
