Private company lined-up to take on ambulance service.

Non Emergency Ambulance Service transport in Plymouth West Devon could be handed to a private company.


A number of firms as well as South Western Ambulance Service have been bidding for the five-year contract.


The Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (DCG) has already handed over to the service in North East Devon to N.S.L, but has not revealed its preferred provider. The aim of the new contracts are to give better value for money.


The service, which provides transport for less mobile patients to and from hospitals and clinics, and has been provided by the South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust (S.W.A.S.F.T). It transports more than 300,000 patients every year around the region but services are being put out to contract in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Gloucester, and Wiltshire. Bristol area has one year left of its Hospital contracts, this area could be next.
