Is there a medic on board?

Clive Haddrell 500 300dpiFirst Response MD, Clive Haddrell was on a recent return trip from New York when an announcement was made requesting if there was a medic on board.

After making himself known to the Virgin airline staff, Clive was asked to attend a man having a diabetic hypo. The patient had his blood meter with him but no lancets but when the plane's onboard medical equipment arrived, there were three lancets available. 'It was impressive kit’ said Clive.

He stayed with the gentleman for a good part of the journey until he recovered. 'You always wonder if you will be the one onboard when this type of situation occurs,' Clive commented, 'but I felt duty bound to help - it’s just in the paramedic's nature’ he said.

Once back in his seat, and the man stable, the stewardesses came over with a thank you bottle of Champagne.
