Resupply of Auto-injectors announced
Bausch & Lomb have announced that the 300 and 500 microgram dose Emerade adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) are available again in the UK following corrections made to the device.
Emerade AAIs were recalled in 2020 because an error in one component caused some devices to fail to activate. Now that corrections have been made, the UK regulator has agreed that the 300 and 500 microgram strengths can be supplied in the UK again. The Emerade 150 microgram dose will not be available at this time.
The Anaphylaxis Campaign would also like to reinforce that the following advice should be given to patients:
- Different brands of AAI have different usage instructions. You MUST receive training specific to the brand you are prescribed.
- Always carry two adrenaline auto-injectors with you at all times.
- Ensure you have registered the expiry date of your devices on the relevant manufacturers websites to give you ample warning when a new prescription is required.
- Ensure you gain a replacement device prior to disposing of any out-of-date devices.
- Always make sure you have a trainer device which can be ordered from the manufacturer’s websites for free:

Bausch & Lomb say to make sure that your family and friends are familiar with the device you have and how to use it. In an emergency call 999, ask for an ambulance and say anaphylaxis (pronounced as ‘anna-fill-axis’).
